Types of Canopy Bedding

When considering the right canopy bedding for your room remember that there are essentially two types of bedding that you need to find. First off are the accessories and dressing for the canopy frame itself. Are you looking for curtains or drapes? Do you need and rich and heavy material that will really enclose your bed and give a very traditional look to your four poster or are you going for a more modern look, with floaty fabrics or something that has a mosquito net feel to it. Your choice will depend on whether you want a more enclosed feel and indeed how warm or cold your location or interior design generally is.

After you've made this choice then the next part of the bedding decisions will revolve around the actual bedding of the bed, that is to say the bed sheets or duvet covers, comforters, pillow cases, blankets etc. These are just as important as the canopy covers. Everything needs to blend and match. The whole look should be sympathetic and in keeping with not just the bed but also the rest of the decoration in your room. This is why the decision to have a canopy bed shouldn't be taken lightly. Buying this type of bed isn't as simple as an ordinary double bed. You really need to put some thought into it and I would recommend making sure you have a decent budget not just for the bed but also for all the bedding you will require.

DIY Canopy Bedding

When it comes to drapes, curtains etc I'm a big fan of DIY canopy bedding. Creating drapes for your four poster really isn't that hard. Anyone with a sewing machine and a tape measure should be able to make their own swags and curtains with the minimum of knowledge. You will need a bit of room to deal with the large pieces of fabric but that's about it. And the advantage of doing it yourself is that you will have such a greater choice of materials and fabrics to choose from. Go online and you will see that actually the number of pre-made products is fairly limited.

In fact manufacturers of canopy beds will sometimes try and push you towards a particular make of bedding that suits their models. And while that might not be a bad choice it's not very imaginative. Consider how many more options you will have if you go down to your local haberdashers and spend and hour or so looking through all their different fabrics. You will have the chance to create something truly unique for your bedroom that nobody else will have. With something like a canopy bed you want to be as original as possible.

Luxury Bed Canopies

Luxury bed canopies are a great choice if you have a decent budget and you're looking to have that "luxury hotel bed" look in your bedroom. No doubt one of the reasons you are buying a four poster bed is because of the romance that they lend to any bedroom. So go one step further and splash out on really high quality bedding to complete the look. Whether you're thinking of buying a ready made product, or thinking of making them yourself, focus on the different types of high quality materials.

Satins, silks and velvet are all very classy materials to give your canopy curtains a touch of luxury. They are all quite rich looking fabrics so take care that they go with the rest of your room. Try to avoid synthetic materials like polyester, which are great if you're looking for a mosquito net, but not so cool if you're trying to add a touch of elegance to your bedroom. As with most things you get what you pay for so be prepared to spend a bit more on this type of bedding.

Childrens Canopy Bedding

You can really have fun when choosing canopy bedding for children, it's a chance to buy all the things you never had as a child! And these days there's so much more choice available. The bedding companies aren't stupid they know what a big market there is out there for decorating kids rooms these days and they haven't been slow to offer a wide choice. Whether you have a boy or a girl you will find something to suit.

For girls there are lots of lovely light canopy nets, many of them embroidered with pretty patterns or perhaps butterflies. Or if you want to keep it simple their are a range of girly colors, pinks and yellows, to choose from. For boys there are canopy nets in camouflage colors and it's quite possible to theme your boys room into a safari setting or a medieval castle. Again if you didn't want to buy something from the shops then take your child with you, go and pick out some unique fabrics and make all the bedding together with them. It will mean so much more to them in the long run.

Canopy Bed Curtains

Canopy bed curtains are great for creating that air of romance that comes so naturally with a four poster bed. They create a room within a room so that when you are in the bed you feel cut off and secluded from the rest of the world, perfect for any die hard romantic. Float away in a world of your own just you and your partner. Close the curtains and you will feel that nothing can touch you and that will surely lead to a better nights sleep.

How enclosed and private you want to be will dictate the type of curtains you choose. A heavy luxurious fabric like velvet really will cut out all the light and may feel a little claustrophobic for some. If that's the case then go for something more lightweight and translucent so that light flood in. This is also a better choice for a young girls canopy bed and will help create that princess feel they love.
